The Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost
September 7
Bulletin Highlights
Welcome! We are glad that you are
worshipping with us today on this Rally Day Weekend. After a busy
summer of travels (NOTE bulletins brought back posted on the bulletin
board near the nursery showing where our congregation was disbursed
during the summer), it’s good to be back together again! Don’t forget
that there are learning opportunities for all ages at 9:45am. Following
the late service, we will gather on the front yard of the church for a
balloon loft and BBQ. EVERYONE IS INVITED! Take time to visit
“Ministry Tables” and look at ways you might serve in this new year.
If you are visiting with us today, a special welcome to you. We pray
that through our worship together, God’s grace will connect with you in
a ‘real authentic’ way.
We live in a web of relations, and the
church is just one among many. As we live closer with one another,
problems of all kinds can arise, and we are to figure out what to do in
the midst of these problems. In our Gospel Lesson today, Jesus offers
some good advice. Jesus is concerned with the daily ethics of our lives
together in our “Life In The Web” which includes the church. As you
prepare for worship, take a few minutes to read over the lessons, and
pray that God’s Spirit may truly be felt in our lives!
† Gathering for
Worship
King’s Chimers
The King’s Chimers are a group of third to sixth graders that play tone
chime music. Practices are held on Sunday evenings from 6:00 - 7:30pm
(the same time as adult education classes). The group plays about once
a month for a CTK service & once or twice a year for outside
organizations. The only things that are required are a willingness to
work as part of a group & consistent attendance. Children who are
interested in becoming new members of the group this year (and one or
both of their parents) are asked to sign up on the bulletin insert & to
attend a summer workshop, which will be held on September 7th. Regular
practices will begin on September 14th. Workshops & practices are held
in the Music Room.
Cantor Camp Rescheduled!!
I am changing the day of Cantor Camp to September 20th at 10:00am in the
Choir Loft. This camp is for current cantors and all confirmed youth
and adults who would like to be a cantor (sing the Kyrie in worship).
If you wish to cantor this year, you need to attend this camp, or see me
to schedule a time to refresh your command of the various liturgical
settings. Contact: Jane Cooper, Phone: 703-759-3919.
Find The Joy!
PSALM 149 says: “Praise the Lord. Sing to the Lord a new song, his
praise in the assembly of the saints. Let Israel rejoice in their
Maker; Let the people of Zion be glad in their King. Let them praise
his name with dancing and make music to him with tambourine and harp.
For the Lord takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with
salvation. Let the saints rejoice in this honor and sing for joy on
their beds.”
Where is the JOY in your life? Are you GLAD to be a Christian? Just as
“the Lord takes delight in his people” we should be delighting in Him.
Come “sing for joy” in the King’s Choir or “make music to him” with the
King’s Ringers. Rehearsals started Wednesday, September 3 at 7:30 p.m.
for King’s Choir and Thursday, September 11 at 7:30 p.m. for King’s
Ringers. For more information, contact Jane Cooper, Director of King’s
Choir at 703-759-3919 or Andrew Dobos, Director of King’s Ringers at
301-460-9642.
Female Voices Needed!
Our King’s Choir desperately needs more Sopranos and Altos (female
voices). I know there are talented voices in our congregation. Perhaps
some of you ladies with small children can get your husband to put the
kids to bed one night a week so you can make choir rehearsal. The
weekly commitment for choir is 7:30pm Wednesday nights with run-throughs
on Sundays at 10:30am in the choir loft (8:20 for early worship only 4
times this season). Youth from the 7th grade up are also encouraged to
join. Sign up on the response sheet for King's Choir!
† Growing in
Faith
Adult Education
Join others in Fellowship Hall from either 10-10:15am, or 10:15-10:30,
or around the “coffee pot” today and learn about “The Bible Book of
Faith Initiative” planned for Christ the King starting in September.
Our classes will provide an introduction to the creation, collection,
and canonization of Scripture. Adults will discover where the Bible
came from, will better understand how it was put together, and will
examine the contribution the Reformation made through scriptural
literacy. Classes will be held Sunday mornings at 9:45am in “Luther’s
Lounge.” Other classes are planned depending on interest. We would
like to also offer this at other times: Sunday Evening, Weekday
(Morn/Eve). Sign up on the Response Sheet, or on Rally Day Sunday.
Please keep this important initiative in your prayers!

meat, 2. taco chicken, 3. hard & soft taco shells, 4. chopped lettuce,
chopped tomatoes and grated cheese, 5. refried beans, 6. dessert, 7.
beverages. Also, if anyone can volunteer to set up and/or serve. The

Property Team
The CTK Property Team is in search of new
members to decrease the work load of the few by having a few ‘experts’
on the committee to help with the decision making process within the
following areas:
-
Plumbing – for both church and
parsonages
-
Painting – for both church and
parsonages
-
Outdoor Grounds – for both church and
parsonages
-
Indoor Beautification – both church &
parsonages (painting, carpets, furniture, organization, etc)
-
Electrical – for both church and
parsonages
-
Handyman – for both church and
parsonages
If you have experience/expertise in one
of these areas we could really use your help. Your ‘services’ would
only be called upon if/when issues dealing with these areas arise.
Using your expertise, the property team would seek your assistance and
guidance on the best course of action to take to solve the issue. The
property team would still be overall responsible for taking care of the
duty, but your input would greatly enhance our ability to get things
done in a timely and efficient manner.
If you are interested in being the
‘Property Team Head’ for one of these area, or would like more
information about this service to the Church, or would just be willing
to help out with the property team, please mark the response sheet or
contact Tom Kalka, CTK Council Member - Property Chairman, at:
703-328-0959 or
Tom.Kalka@CustomFitnessConcepts.com.
