The Holy Trinity
May 18
Bulletin Highlights
Christ is Risen! Alleluia! We are glad that you are
here. If you are visiting with us today, a warm welcome to you. We
pray that you will experience God’s grace today as we worship together.
Do you intend to continue in the covenant God made with
you in Holy Baptism:
To love among God’s faithful people,
To hear the word of God and share in the Lord’s
supper,
To proclaim the good news of God in Christ through
word and deed,
To serve all people, following the example of Jesus,
And to strive for justice and peace in all the
earth?
13 young men and women today come forth in the midst of
this faith community and answer this question with these words, ‘I do,
and I ask God to help and guide me.’ Today they make a commitment to
continue to live in the relationship that God established with them.
The first words of our 1st lesson this morning captures the essence of
this day. ‘In the beginning when God…’ Its God who first establishes a
relationship with us…whether you like it or not, God has a relationship
with you. How we choose to live in that relationship is our journey of
faith and discipleship. We all from time to time should look at this
question and affirm the relationship that God has with us…and then shape
our whole lives around this good news of God creating, redeeming, and
calling us to be his hands and feet to the world.
† Gathering for
Worship
Stimulate the Church, too…
From the Stewardship Committee
As was mentioned in the May newsletter, many of you will be soon
receiving a tax rebate as a result of the Congress and the President
agreeing to legislation earlier this year to help stimulate the
economy. While many may consider paying off some debts, making a
postponed purchase or putting it into savings, now is the a great
opportunity to practice the biblical principle of providing the first
fruits for God's work as well. As the article mentions, this tax rebate
is really a opportunity of stewardship for all of us. The Lord has
blessed us with extra income. What will you do with extra money?
Fulfill God's principles and sow generously! Practice the Old Testament
standard of tithing or the New Testament standard of a Gospel or love
response and stimulate God's work at Christ the King Lutheran Church.
This is a great opportunity to thank God with your first fruits. Give
this rebate gift prayerful consideration and enjoy the blessings that
God can bestow on each of you.
† Growing in
Faith
Adult Ed Series: Forgiveness (Continues
Sunday June 8)
Adults today – join in reception
honoring Confirmation Students
No SS next Sunday (Memorial Day
weekend)
Join others in Luther’s Lounge as we
continue our studies on “Forgiveness.” Using Jesus’ teaching on
“forgiveness” from the Bible, we will also use two recent movies “The
Power of Forgiveness” and “Crossroads: A Story of Forgiveness” to help
us explore this topic. Areas to be covered are “Forgiveness and
Justice,” “Forgiving Oneself,” “Forgiveness and Faith,” “Forgiveness and
Health.” Do you tend to be a forgiving person? Do you believe that
some misdeeds are so horrible that forgiveness is out of the question?
Come and share as we explore “Forgiveness.”
Teacher Appreciation Dinner - DATE
CHANGE
The Teacher Appreciation Dinner will be
held this year on June 28, 2008 at 6:00pm, at the Riffe’s home in Great
Falls. I will be needing two individuals to help with set-up and three
more for clean-up. If you or your child has benefited from attending
Sunday School or adult education classes, please consider assisting me
in this effort. The majority of our teachers have been teaching at
least for several years and this is one way we can show them our
gratitude. If you can assist or, if you have questions, please contact
me at 703-363-3044. Louise Babirak, Learning Chair.
Small Group
Please join our Monday night Small Group,
as we study, Seven Spiritual Gifts of Waiting by Holly W. Whitcomb.
Whitcomb explores patience, loss of control, living in the present,
compassion, gratitude, humility and trust in God as spiritual offerings
that we frequently overlook in our daily lives. She quotes Jesuit
Pierre Teilhard de Chardin who advised: “Trust the slow work of God”.
The author challenges us to quit worrying and relax into the grace of
God (doesn’t that sound inviting!) We will meet on the 2nd and 4th
Mondays at 7:00pm during the months of April – July. Please call Amy or
Mike at 703-481-6488 (evenings) or Mike at 703-759-6068 (day) for more
information or to purchase a book ($8).
New Small Group
CTK is starting a new small group for
exercise enthusiasts. Each month a member of the group will organize a
special event for the rest of the group. One month, we might go for a
run around the Mall in DC, the next we may hike the trails in Great
Falls. Another month we may ride our bikes along the Reston Triathlon
Course. The point is to provide fellowship for those interested in
being fit and healthy. All levels of fitness are welcome as we will
arrange it so that any and everyone can participate!
We’ve created a web site on ‘Yahoo
Groups’ that allows everyone to share information. If you are
interested in joining the Yahoo Group, please email Tom Kalka at
Tom.Kalka@CustomFitnessConcetps.com
or mark the response sheet, and he will send you an invitation to join.
You can also get to it by searching the Yahoo Groups directory.

Summer Music Class
I have often heard people say, “I would
love to sing in the choir, but I can’t read music.” So, I would like to
give you the opportunity to learn. I am considering offering a class in
basic Music Theory this summer at 9:45am each Sunday, starting June
22nd.
The class would cover note duration, time
signatures, melodic & harmonic intervals, sight singing, ear training,
and hands-on experience with the language of music. There will be
handouts with exercises to be written in class and taken home for
review. There will not be any required reading or homework assigned.
The class will be open to adults and kids from 4th grade up and a
materials fee of $10 per student will apply.
This class is also an excellent review
for those people who already participate in a vocal or instrumental
choir, or someone who used to play an instrument and is considering
taking it up again. Learning something new is living life to the
fullest! Come, learn the language of music! Contact: Jane Cooper,
